Moles, voles, or shrews
March 9th, 2016 by Tuff Turf MolebustersAs the snow melts in Michigan we see the damage created by pests under the snow. It can be difficult to distinguish the damage between moles, voles, and shrews. As a general rule moles do not like to come out of the ground. However, in the winter they can come out of the ground and still be under the snow. Eastern moles tend to leave large piles. Star nosed moles leave smaller piles that are very close together. Voles and shrews will eat the grass at ground level.
Some damage is not that easy to distinguish, which is where we can help. Our professionals run into problems like in the picture below on a frequent basis.
